Clematis! This is one of the loveliest vines in our yard. It was a gift from my husband (after I nagged him for years....). I have several clematis vines and every year the blooms are larger and more plentiful. Clematis is less invasive than many vines and relatively easy to grow. There is too much information on the Internet and too many varieties to go into growth details.
After working in a nursery for many years I learned that there is a big difference between learning about a plant in a book and learning from growing it myself. I have always read that clematis is a fussy vine, but have not seen this in my own yard. The plants I purchased from root stock have been remarkably slow growing, but it matters not. And, AND, there is a John Paul II Clematis*. We will be ordering this and planting it on the second anniversary of his passing.
* I know nothing about the nursery I linked to and cannot speak to the quality. I do very little with mail order nurseries.
