Mail, sent and received

I'm never more proud of myself than when I drop things off at the post office.  Today, it's a package of goodies for my brother, who is deployed somewhere or other.  And my fabric for the quilting bee which I finally chose, washed, and divided yesterday afternoon.  Whew.  It's still July, if only just barely.  

And on Saturday I received some very special yarn in the mail!

My very own Mushroom yarn.  I started knitting it in a very simple scarf pattern so the pattern won't detract from the colors.  It's just like knitting up the forest.  I love it.

Literature for the Young Lady - Interesting!  I had to get my windshield replaced yesterday and my daughter forced asked me to read a chapter from Anne of Green Gables.  It was the chapter on Matthew and the dress and I couldn't help but fall in love.  The back story to this is that I saw some television production of Anne when I was a child and so hated it that I never picked up the books on my own.  It was the exact same story with the Little House books - hated the TV series and only finally read the books to Lucy a few years ago.  What a shame.

I'm so blue!  My favorite fabric shop is closing.  She's having a closing sale - the coupon code is on this post.  Normally, a coupon code is cause for celebration, but not today.  Anyway, she has a great selection of prints and offers the best customer service around.  Can you feel me moping?  Stupid economy.

My sister had this 1970s suitcase in blue.  I couldn't figure out why I liked the Wild Bunch fabric so much until I put all this together.   My local quilt shop is only selling charm packs, but I don't know that I have big plans for these prints.  They are just fun.  

The top photo is one of our anemones.  Aren't those anthers gorgeous?  And isn't it sort of fun to say "anemone" (ə-ˈne-mə-nē\)  ?  Anemone, anemone, anemone.

Too Pretty to Cut

Remember waaaay back in December when all this sewing stuff was newish to me?  Well, it was Heather Bailey's yo yo tutorial that opened the door to the possibility that maaaaybe I could start sewing on my own.  I am so grateful because the process of choosing fabric and creating something for my little sweetie is something I enjoy more than I can say.

Earlier this week, I ordered a few yards of Heather Bailey's Freshcut fabric.  I have been looking at it for ages, and was so happy to finally see it in person.  The online photos don't do it justice.  I just wanted to sit and stare at it last night, but I did end up finally cutting into it and making a little summer dress:
