My little package is all ready to go for the newest little baby in our family. I found these two projects on a couple of different blogs. I love them both and they will be my standard new baby gift now.
First up! Wee Envelope by Ysolda, first seen here. I cast on for this one fairly quickly after seeing Grumperina's version. I love the envelope style neck opening as it reminds me of those teeny tiny shirts first worn by newborns in the hospital. For that reason it was only fitting that I knit it in a beautiful creamy white color, Knit Picks Simply Cotton Organic Sport in 'Marshmallow'. This is a favorite yarn for baby knits. The pattern is cleverly designed with lovely finishing touches and just a bit of making up at the end. I'm so very smitten with this that I'm about to cast on for another for my own little girl. This only took about 4 days front start to finish.
Next! A triple gauze baby blanket. This was another quick project. I saw Cherie using it in this post - my blanket is nearly identical except that she serged around her edges and I did a double fold hem. I'm not sure which I like better! I did not enjoy working with double gauze but triple gauze is so different. It's deliciously squishy and soft and amazing. The perfect fabric for a baby blanket. It was so squishy (and a bit stretchy) that it was somewhat tricky to hem, so I can see why the serged edge could work better in some situations.
And now we wait!
