Finally getting around to posting this! This is the little doll I made for the baby's first birthday. I used the pattern and instructions from Growing Up Sew Liberated which are quite good and better than the instructions I used for the first Waldorf style dolls I made.
These are so very time consuming to make but I enjoyed making this one a bit more because of the little outfit. The bonnet, cardigan, and dress were all mini versions of identical pieces made for the baby during her first year; the yarn and fabrics are the same as well. The little tights were cut from a onesie she wore (a lot). I gave the doll wispy baby hair using fine thread and grayish eyes just like our baby girl's. And well, it might be my most favorite thing that I've made. Each glance at the little doll calls to mind all the time spent knitting or sewing the originals, the Masses to which she wore them, the way her chubby soft body felt in my arms. I'm so grateful that it came together the way I envisioned but mostly grateful for the last 15 months with this girl. (Even on our hardest days and lemme tell you, today's been no picnic. ;))
