In the Kitchen - Back to basics. After my sick pregnancy and then a long stretch of living dairy free while nursing (praise God, she's officially not allergic to dairy, pass the half and half!), I lost my will (skill?) to bake. But now I've resettled on a family favorite brownie - though we all prefer the version with semi-sweet chocolate. I've also been hard at work tweaking the chocolate chip cookie. I went back to the drawing board with Alton Brown's chewy chocolate chip cookie recipe and it really is a better cookie. It really does require bread flour and I think the dark brown sugar is the way to go.
In the Schoolroom - We had a good day yesterday! I'm still tweaking here and there, especially when it comes to my lesson planning method. I really just need an IPad, right? I don't know that I have the time to write up all we are using, but it's mostly from Memoria Press. I do really like their Intro to Composition program for my son. Both the children are using their Poetry books too and those are just lovely! My favorite poetry collections yet (bonus points for including something or other from The Hobbit, my children were thrilled).
In the Knitting Basket - I have new winter white yarn, the right size needles, a pattern, and a football season, but can't seem to carve out the time for the provisional cast on.
Reading - Rereading Dark Summit. I'm such a sucker for Everest books. I can think endlessly about the ethics of climbing Everest, arguing in circles with myself because no one else around me is as fascinated.
Must Read Post - Sweetpea Turns Eighteen. All those dresses! I've been so very blessed to hold Cheryl's work in my hands and she is remarkably skilled. What an amazing way to document her daughter's childhood.
In the Garden - It's gross outside and I don't go out unless forced. I planted tomatoes but I don't even know if they are still alive. What the heck, September?
Time's up and the children are just talking and talking and talking so I can no longer form thoughts. Happy Tuesday!
