I joined Pinterest about a week ago. I think it's a bad fit for me, but I was keeping countless windows open on my computer to remind me of ideas so it just seemed like an obvious solution.
So Pinterest is kind of a breeding ground for crock pot ideas, huh? I pinned two myself: Overnight Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal and Dinner Rolls. The oatmeal was OK - a little gummy but not a bad way to start a winter day. For crock pot oatmeal, it's better to use use steel cut, right?
I had some serious doubts about the dinner rolls, even coming from the Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day folks, but I approached it like an experiment to avoid a feeling of failure should the result prove inedible. No need, they were surprisingly good. A little soft, a little steamed tasting, but I popped them under the broiler for less than a minute and they disappeared very soon after hitting the table. It's an interesting method and I could see it being useful, as the rolls rise and baked simultaneously.
We also tried a new ricotta technique from The Homemade Pantry. I liked it better than Ina's and it is a little simpler, but slower. I served it on a baguette with slow roasted tomatoes and it was delicious.
We've wrapped up lessons for the day. My older two are practicing for tonight's poker game with dad - I shrugged it off at first, but they are having the most fun and it's fascinating to watch their little minds work. The baby is asleep and I'm going to attempt to cut out a dress pattern.
I hope your week is off to a great start, friends! I also hope I didn't make any typos, but if I stop to check again I'll waste even more precious nap time.
