I set out to read 52 books in 52 weeks, inpisred by Faith. I knew I wouldn't get to it, but I did read more in 2012.
There's no way I'm linking to it all, but here's the list:
- The Age of Innocence
- Into the Wild
- Dracula
- The Forgotten Garden
- The Call of the Wild
- Dust
- The Apothecary (ugh)
- Daisy Miller
- Radical Homemakers
- Style, Sex, and Substance
- Isaac's Storm
- The Digital Photography Book
- The Digital Photography Book II
- The Witch of Blackbird Pond
- Bridget Jones's Diary
- Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
- Hey Ranger!
- Waiting for Birdy (a reread, but I love it so)
- I'll Mature When I'm Dead, Dave Barry
- A Little Princess
- The Botany of Desire
- The Backyard Homestead
- Let's Pretend This Never Happened
- Is It Just Me, Miranda Hart (love)
- The Attachment Parent Book
- Beyond the Sling
- Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child
So. Not an impressive list in terms of content or quantity. I went light this year. Too tired and worried to read anything too profound.
Also, I read almost exclusively on my Kindle. I probably read a book or two in paper form, but I can't even remember. I probably also reread some Harry Potter, Little Women, Little House, and The Introduction to the Devout Life but I'm not counting those. Also not adding several I didn't finish.
The standouts: Radical Homemakers and Style, Sex, and Substance complimented one another. Together, they helped me clarify how I want to live my vocation. Actually, I'd add The Botany of Dersire to that group as well. All encourage an intimacy with one's domestic life which I find, in practice, to be a source of prfound joy, contentment, and satisfaction. Excuse the overlapping adjectives but I need them all. :)
Top fiction: Dracula. Oh LOVED! The Forgotten Garden was good too.
Top Humor: Is It Just Me? HIlarious. Also gets an extra star for being funny without also being completely filthy. Maybe you'd have to be familiar with Miranda Hart to appreciate it fully, but it was one of my favorites. I'm so happy to see Hart gaining a following here in th US thanks to Call the Midwife.
Things are going downhill fast 'round here, so I need to go parent my children. Happy Friday, friends!
