FOR TODAY
Outside my window... clear and cold - as opposed to the start of this week which was freakishly warm, humid, and windy. Bleh.
I am thinking... about feeding the baby. I kind of hate to start solids. I have had so much trouble breastfeeding this baby. Up until she was about five month old, she would regularly scream when I tried to nurse her in the evenings. We would have to feed her a sip or two of pumped milk to get her to calm down enough to nurse. It was just so hard. Now, she nurses like a champ... all night long. And I secretly don't really mind. I'd like to linger here a bit longer. I have fed her just enough solids to satisfy her pediatrician.
I am thankful... that I decluttered last night. I love waking to a clean, peaceful space.
In the kitchen... I've been making at least one big pot of vegetable soup every week. It's such a great way to get quality vegetables into my family. I recommend the Mark Bittman recipe (with a few alterations to suit the tastes of my family) for the many meatless Fridays which will be here very soon. Incidentally, Michele pointed out that the US Bishops are encouraging American Catholics to abstain every Friday, which some of you probably do already. I'm not a regular meat eater so it's not on my radar enough to remember to plan meatless meals for the rest of the family, but I'm going to try a little harder now.
I am wearing... sweats and a Gap nursing top.
I am creating... a garden. I'm about to plant waaaay more seeds than is wise. I gave my husband a final seed list. I'm curious to see whether he edits out the stuff that just isn't practical. Nasturtiums! California Poppies! Lupines!
I am wondering... what the heck I'm going to do with all those seedlings. My husband is wondering that too.
I am reading... oh still nothing. But I figured out the problem. I can't manage my old book light on my Kindle - it's not a good fit. Does anyone have a booklight that works well with the Kindle?
I am hoping... for a quick tax return. I turned in all our paperwork yesterday. My efforts at staying super organized paid off and I was able to get everything ready in record time. Whew.
I am looking forward to... paying off more medical bills with a hefty tax return? Pretty please, Uncle Sam? I'd love to put that behind us!
Around the house...a revamped laundry room. My shelves are currently too short for oh, EVERYTHING. My husband is going to rework the shelves and a few other things I haven't mentioned yet!
One of my favorite things.. when it was warm earlier this week, I sat down outside in my favorite chair under my favorite tree while swinging the baby and knitting. Her face, y'all. Such joy and amazement - she couldn't even get out a proper laugh. And I just never thought I'd be there - here - again. Peacefully swinging another baby. I'm just so grateful.
A peek into my day... Snowdrops emerging.
And for Kimberlee:
Wow, what a crummy photo of our classification worksheet! Sorry, Kimberlee! I'm having my son sketch a photo of the animal too. It's really a great project. The children are picking up and using the terms correctly. Yay!
Oh my goodness, it's been a hectic morning and I really need to get things settled around here! I hope you have a super day, friends!
