It took approximately one week from me considering cloth diapers to become one of those people who consider it an art. I was determined to only buy some prefolds and a couple of covers because I don't want to spend a bunch of money. And then I peeked at the fitteds and I thought maybe I could try one and then I looked closer and thought maybe I could make one.
And while I'm still working out the kinks on the elastic, this puppy is super absorbent and there are little rose bouquets on her bottom.
All of this to say that I called it and I've fallen hard for cloth diapers. But if I can call a few of you hardcore cloth diaperers over to the corner to ask a few questions....
1. I just bought a couple of Thirsties Duo covers on a whim because I liked the looks of them. I'm thinking of trying Bummis because the Thirsties are a little too big (even snapped as small as they'll go). Any preferences out there? My 6 mo is 16 pounds. I seriously don't want to invest much here and am not one bit interested in AIOs (ugh, I know what that means now!).
2. Any detergent recommendations? My head is spinning a bit over that one. I used to make my own but we had a few problems with that so I went back to Seventh Generation or Dreft. The laundry is my most favorite part of this which is another reason I'd like to stick to prefolds. They are more fun to fold. (How am I actually writing these things?)
3. I'm going to whisper this one as it's indelicate. Stop reading if you are squeamish.... Is a #2 supposed to look like a scene of unimaginable horror or am I doing something wrong? She's exclusively breastfed and WOW, y'all. Wow. (Prefold with a Thirstie combo and not much fazes me but wow.)
I've read a few of your posts on cloth diapering, but if anyone wants to chime in with favorite brands and stuff, I'd love to read more. About diapers. I'd love to read more about diapers and I really mean it. (Imagine me putting my head in my hands and wondering what I've become.)
