I promised my sister I'd share this recipe if it turned out well. It did - very, very well. It is both subtle and complexly flavored - a luxurious comfort food and oh, so perfect for fall!
I used this recipe as a starting point and tweaked according to taste (omitting everything I forgot at the grocery store).
Dry ingredients:
- 5 cups rolled oats
- 3 cups pecan halves
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 tbs. ground flax seeds
Wet ingredients:
- 4 ounces unsweetened apple sauce
- 1/3 maple syrup
- ¼ cup honey
- 3 tbs. butter
Mix dry ingredients in one bowl, wet in another and then stir it all together until the oats are uniformly coated. I baked it on a jelly roll pan for about 40 minutes at 300 degrees, stirring every 10 minutes as recommended.
Incidentally, I love the description of blogging as described in the original granola post; An Official Repository of Good Stuff. I know I can't commit to making a high profile, monetarily profitable blog and I don't even want to do that but if it's just for kicks, why spend the time? She sums it up very nicely in that post . If nothing else, I love that I have a record of all of our favorite recipes, books, lessons, and other activities over the last 6 years. A little domestic diary. So I'll keep taking ridiculous photos of our dinner and laundry and the rest. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of all that.
