Wednesdays are science days. I love science days. That's one topic I feel confident that we are covering adequately... most of the time. If nothing else, we are enthusiastic and observant!
In addition to taking a more active role in the spring garden, I have two children capable of participating in the Journey North Mystery Class this year. My daughter charts the data and my son "helps" me with the subtraction.
The kitchen window is filling up with seedlings and my husband surprised me with orchids and hellebores this week. I figured out a place to plant my potatoes and carrots but that must wait because, for maybe the first time this winter, it's just plain cold out there right now.
I plan to sit in my Ikea chair near the warmest window with some ultra soft gray-green merino.
I missed my Friday Morning Book Post yesterday. I didn't read much at all as I was sick most of the week. Extended morning sickness was a part of both my previous pregnancies so I'm not surprised by it but can I just say how annoying it is to have a free pass to put on 20-30 pounds at the same time I find food completely repulsive? It's a real struggle each day to think of anything at all in the entire world I would like to eat. And then try to keep it down. I feel sort of guilty that I don't enjoy pregnancy more but I think the fact that I am more than willing to endure it despite the many obstacles shows dedication, right?
Weekend Links
A lovely idea from the lovely sarah
A list Catholic Institutions opposing the new HHS Mandate (ht to my sister). I'm trying not to overdo it here with the politics and all, but as a Catholic woman of child bearing age who agrees with (in theory and in practice) all the teachings of the Church and thinks it is the institution that most honors women, I'm feeling really under represented in the media.
The most ridiculously beautiful fabric. I'm only linking to it because I've already secured my lot. It's amazing. I never buy fabric or yarn unless I already have a use for it. This? Nope. It was just too pretty to resist.
Happy Saturday, friends!
That fabric is beautiful.
Thank you for the mention, you are so kind :-)
I can't believe that mandate was even attempted in the Land of the Free. It boggles my mind and makes me seriously disturbed, and I'm not Catholic. I've had my little rant about it on FB, but have been carefully quiet elsewhere. Politics feels like a dangerous subject these days.
I hope you feel better soon. I had 9 months of morning sickness and all I could eat happily was vanilla ice cream and Kentucky Fried Chicken fries! Even ginger, the supposed cure, made me feel sick. It was worth it in the end, of course :-) I hope you are staying strong and well rested and getting enough vitamins and I wish you all blessings.

Oh dear, I really should have read that comment before I published ... when I wrote "makes me seriously disturbed" I *meant* "it seriously does disturb me." Small difference in words, big difference in meaning! ;-)

Love the HHS list you included. It's good to see big names like ND, Catholic Charities and Catholic U....soemtimes we want to hear that more than just schools like Ave Maria are opposing something anti-Catholic!

Jennifer, yes on the dedication. :)
When I was pregnant with Ramona, the only two things I wanted to eat much of the time were Ben & Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk, and stalks of celery.

Thanks for the list! It is so hard to understand how the mandate is not violating religious freedom - and it's not just Catholic institutions that would be affected - any religious organization that takes stance against birth control and abortive procedures would be affected!

Thanks for the list! It is so hard to understand how the mandate is not violating religious freedom - and it's not just Catholic institutions that would be affected - any religious organization that takes stance against birth control and abortive procedures would be affected! It is a disservice to our country to force people to choose between their health, their employment and their morals.
P.S. - I still rather new to Catholicism and have only, with the birth of my son and much soul searching, come to see the light in the churches teaching on life. Therefore I know more on the other side of the fence and have felt very, very alone on things like the facebook what with the HHS mandate and the Komen fiasco.

That fabric is gorgeous! What are you going to make with it? Praying for you! I've never had rough pregnancies, but MAN, everything around them is sometimes very awful. Been having mammary gland issues...very painful issues, for going on 3 weeks and I just don't know how much more I can stand it before I wean the kid. We'll see. Offering it up for you tomorrow (I figure I already complained too much about it today to have anything left to offer it up!;)

p.s. I understand completely, I didn't enjoy being pregnant at all with my son. I was so sick so long and so stressed out all the enjoyment was completely sapped from my body.

Elisa: I don't know what to make with the fabric. I think I'll just stare at it for a good long time! I'm sorry about your... issues. I hope things improve soon.
And thanks all, for letting me know I'm not alone in not enjoying every second of pregnancy!

Hope you feel better soon. I'll be watching your seedlings with interest - my veggie garden has expanded in the past few weeks to not just tomatoes but now strawberries, cucumbers, zuchinni and brocollini. The tomatoes are just being harvested, and yum yum yum. Oh, whoops - hope the talk about food didn't make you feel ill!
