Because it's a cold, rainy day in February.
Because Martha Stewart inspired my little girl who has mentioned it every day since December. And I can so relate to being inspired by Martha Stewart.
Because my daughter worked on her lessons with an efficiency previously unimagined.
Because I could borrow my Dad's pasta machine.
Because, if nothing else, I could write a blog post about it.
None are great reasons for doing anything, but the reasons didn't matter. Tomorrow, on to ravioli! I made my daughter read this post before committing. "Are you sure you are prepared to spend four and a half hours making dinner?"
She is sure. And it is excellent pasta, I must admit. I also must admit to using a just-add-water mix from Williams-Sonoma. I do not regret it. It was a good way to get our feet wet and oh, I'm just not up for the extra mess right now.
Martha inspires generations.
My daughter's very first hand written notes were taken while watching a cheese episode on Martha. And yes, afterwards we ran to the store to find Manchego and Chèvre.
Pasta I've always hesitated to make...

Awesomeness. I'd never leave the kitchen w/ a machine like that! I have only ever made "Spaetzli" - this Swiss egg/flour mix that you push through a colander into boiling water to make little pastas..yum...now I'll have to make some soon, because your picture always make me hungry! =)

How neat! I have a friend whose son makes all their pasta. I am too lazy.

I'm too lazy too, sarah. We had a long talk about investment of time and money vs. possible benefit last night. I'm not sure pasta will make the cut. We'll give it a few weeks!

I've got a pasta machine much like that one. I have made pasta twice with it and each time it tasted like hard old shoe leather. The firt time, I had family over to eat it and they all smiled politely and said how delicious it was, until I tasted it, spat it out and said "BLECH that is HORRID!" - at which they all breathed a sigh of relief and spat out their mouthfuls. Well, they almost spat it out, that would have been rude... they did tentatively agree with me though :)
