I don't think peas grow very well here in Texas, but I won't know for certain until I've tried it myself! A friend and I split packs of two varieties and are going to experiment. I let each of the children plant a variety and followed it up with popsicles for labeling purposes ;). One is Sugar Pod 2 Snow Pea and the other is (unknown because I can't figure out how to get to my old text messages but I hope my friend will comment or something because it's kind of an important part of the experiment).
Miraculously, I was able to find our copy of Gregor Mendel: The Friar Who Grew Peas and we'll read it together this afternoon. It's beautifully illustrated and a nice introduction to genetics for older children. I think it really encourages scientific observation which is a habit I continuously strive to cultivate in my little students.
Hope your peas do very well! I planted them for the first time this year. My dad has been planting them very successfully for several years now. I just put up a blog post with late January garden pics. :)

Thats great to hear, Cheryl! I am worried about the heat, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. And if you can grow them in your climate, then I should be OK, I hope!

I have tried texting you but it is coming back to me as an invali #. Anyway, the variety is called 'Green Arrow Shell Peas'
Email me you #, maybe I have a wrong digit.

Good luck on the peas.
I have tomatoes growing this year, having been a bit more domesticated. They are just starting to ripen now and I've thought of you a few times while tending to them :)

Wonderful! Oooo, I am *itching* to garden this year. It is just about time to start some cool weather plants indoors here. I'm planning on trying an heirloom only garden, but I really have NO idea what I'm doing, lol.
