We celebrate Halloween enthusiastically around here, but not so much in a ghost/gore/skimpy costume kind of way. Here is a list of our favorite not-very-scary Halloween books.
The Itsy Bitsy Spider - Great illustrations in this book based on the song.
Screech Owl at Midnight Hollow - The formant I linked to isn't my favorite (tiny hardcover), but it's all I could find. We have a larger 11 by 13 or something.
From Seed to Pumpkin - Excellent book on the growth cycle of the pumpkin. Can I tell you? One of my two most frequnetly occurring nightmares is that Halloween dawns and we don't have any pumpkins. I'm not even trying to be funny. The other nightmare is about bears.
Pumpkin Moonshine - Not my favorite, but it's in rotation.
My Jack O'Lantern - A cute little board book, one of the first I purchased as a new mom.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - A beautifully illustrated retelling of Washington Irving's classic tale. I love this book. My children think it's too spooky. It's irrelevant though, because I still cannot find it.
Franklin's Halloween - I love Franklin.
Draw. Write. Now. Autumn Harvest
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown - I'm not even linking because I saw some new shiny version in the book store and I do not approve. Anyway, this is our very most favorite October book. We'll watch the cartoon tonight after a special dinner and make little Ed Emberely inspired pumpkin patch pictures.
I'm pretty sure this isn't a complete list, but all the books are back in the bedrooms of my sleeping children and there's no way I'm waking them up early so I can write a more thorough blog post. Please leave any of your favorites in the comments! Happy Friday!
The Runaway Pumpkin. It has a good fun rhyme to it, although maybe a little young for your kids.

"Pumpkin Soup," "The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything," and "Too Many Pumpkins" - my kids have been asking for them every night this month!
(My first comment on your blog!)

From Seed to Pumpkin is a favorite here too.
I think our favorite, favorite fall/Halloween book would have to be Oh My, Pumpkin Pie!
