I'm letting my daughter finish The Mysterious Benedict Society on her own because it just didn't suit me and I didn't like reading it to her enough to read it as quickly as she wanted me to. That was such a horribly written sentence that I ended it with a preposition on purpose to add a little extra cringe.
The Harp and Laurel Wreath made its way into this year's school book pile and I've been reading it to both children in the evenings. I don't think I care much for poetry, but every now and then I find it charming to read aloud. This is a great collection.
We ended up taking a proper summer break. Don't know how that happened. Our new start date is August 15th. I'm opening newly arrived boxes and gathering old books from under beds and closet corners. I'm very much looking forward to opening up the box of fall picture books for my son. It's taking some time to put together, but it's all very happy work.
Books on my mind for fall:
A Wrinkle in Time (I think this was the first book I bought for my daughter almost 11 years ago)- Redwall
Look here! Elisa joined me this week for the Saturday Morning Book Post (even though I'm a day late!) Check out her dreamy photos of Switzerland.
Shortcake just finished reading the MBS so they should have loads to gab about the next time we see you. She loved it... I made it about halfway through. I liked it, but like you said, just not enough to finish.

We have the Harp & Laurel Wreath. We've only read the first few poems. I just can't wait until my kids can read to me! We'll see if I can keep up with posting every Saturday. =) I didn't even realize how much we were reading until I had written it down.

I am always so jealous of people who buy in homeschooling supplies. :-)

Jenn, just a heads up -- I know she's sensitive, so you might want to preview or summarize the "Waiting Room" chapter if you weren't there yet. Ramona was a little creeped out by it. I really enjoyed the first MBS book (read it along with my older girls, then later as a read aloud to Ramona) but haven't followed up with the others, although the girls exhorted me to. Just too many other good things on my tbr pile, and not enough interest to dive into the trilogy.

Isa is reading Redwall again, but she didn't like "A wrinkle in time" at all. We are all reading Caddie Woodlawn which seems wrong for an August selection. For myself I am loving "I capture the Castle" the perfect summer reading for a tired mommy...and aren't all mommies tired?
Ditto what Sarah said too.
