We didn't expect peaches the first year, but we got peaches the first year. Eight, in fact. They are not perfect, but they are beautiful and yummy. They ripened early, due to a winter spent in a greenhouse. I am so, so happy about my first little peaches.
I know I'm not the first person in the world to grow their own food. Goodness, we've been doing this ourselves for years. But the joy and surprise never really diminishes. There are so many things that can go wrong. Caterpillars, birds, squirrels. But y'all. Y'all! I have eight peaches sitting on my kitchen table. Real peaches that weren't grown for shelf life, but for taste. (One little peach did encounter a caterpillar, so he has been isolated and wasn't available for his blog glamour shot.)
This will be the biggest yield we get from our fruit trees this year. Most of the pears dropped either due to immaturity or some strong spring winds. These eight were such a lovely little surprise gift. And provide just enough encouragement to plant more next year!
Wow!! Very impressive. With our move coming soon, we don't have anything planted at all this year and the electric company took out most of our wild blackberries. It will be a couple of years until I can get the joy of eating what I've grown, but it's such a thrill every time!

Wow! Already?! You Southerners are SO lucky! I'm a tad bit jealous. We don't get our peaches till mid August here in CO.
They look lovely and delicious. Enjoy!

I totally get your enthusiasm. We're watching sprouts come up on our tabletop garden (waiting to be transplanted) and we're always excited when we see another miniscule carrot sprout--you almost need a magnifying glass -- btw, i love your little peaches shot all in a row

Congratulations! They are most lovely. (and I know how you feel - I was so happy with my first apricots and figs last year!)

Those are beautiful! How can you say they're not? Lucky!

Fun! They are beautiful and I bet they taste amazing. Are you going to save the seeds? "Wow, they are lined up!", says Luke, my 2.5 year old, who is snuggling next me as I catch up on your blog posts. =)

They are beautiful! I'm looking on with great admiration! We have not ventured into fruit growing...except strawberries. Little critters around here decimate everything that I need to figure out how to keep them away from our fruit before I venture into berry bushes and fruit trees.

I always look forward to peaches at the end of the summer here in Colorado. We buy a big box and then we make peach milkshakes and oh, are they delicious!
