I'm joining Ginny again this week to chat about books and knitting, the two things that occupy almost 100% of my 'leftover' time.
There was a quiet moment yesterday when the children ran outside to enjoy the beautiful autumn morning. I took the time to bring out the first of the winter books and cast on for Christmas gift #5. Cabled Fingerless Mittens.
I accomplished little at the end of the day - only an inch or so. My yarn bears the unmistakable signs of being frogged a time or two or three. Counting stitches on even the simplest mitten pattern becomes far more difficult when my children are calling out numbers from their math lessons.
I'm in a rush to finish these because after days of searching and weeks of indecision, I finally chose and ordered the yarn for a winter vest for my son. I'm now stalking the mailman. :) Hopefully, that will be on the needles for next week's Yarn Along.
I am such a slow knitter. I really think I should start a smaller project just to give me some diversity. I know what you mean about counting as you are casting on. I cast on that sweater and had to count each stitch no less than 4 times!

Same here Michelle - It was embarrassing as it was only 44 stitches!

I had to cast on like 50 times for my little guys hat.I can't have any action during cast on!

I had to do the same thing when casting on. I think I began my cardigan about 4 times. I'm bad with numbers. I love the color of that yarn...soooo pretty.

That looks like a wonderful book, Jenn. You always have such good suggestions. And those are going to be beautiful mittens. I love the color.

I usually have a couple of different types of projects going on for different situations. Easy knitting for when the kiddos are around is a must! (Plus, this way, I have an excuse for my short-attention span on projects!) I know that "stalking the mailman" feeling. Looking forward to hearing more about the vest in the future.

Unless it's stockinette in the round, I have to have quiet or else I mess up! Sometimes I feel like I spend more time "knitting backwards" than actually making progress.

I stalk the mailman too, anytime I place an order for material, yarn, or a book...my 3 vices (along with cooking). I can't wait to see the new vest started!

Love the cabled fingerless gloves! My sister just said today she was really wanting some to keep her fingers warm as she takes pictures. Hmm now I will have to decide if I am ready to tackle cables...
The color you picked is wonderful!
