I'm over on Ravelry. Question: How much time can one spend thinking about sock patterns and/or sock yarn before one is considered mentally unbalanced? The problem is that there are a lot of people (esp. on Ravelry) who spend a lot of time thinking about sock patterns and/or sock yarn so it's just so hard to tell if I've lost my mind entirely.
And oh my, did you hear? Obama killed a fly! Never in the history of the world has such a big deal been made over someone killing a fly. Good heavens, news media! That's two presidents with awesome reflexes, though the clip of Bush ducking the shoe is far funnier. I could examine that like it was a priceless work of art, the anger and courage that prompted the shoe to be thrown, the slight smirk from the president as the show flew by... It was beautiful. It was beautiful if you didn't like George Bush and it was beautiful if you did.
That's about all I have to say right now. I'll try to pop back in soon with something of value.
Affectionately yours,
Jenn
Funny, I am doing the same thing reading Simple Living sites. Not sure how much simpler I can make my life so it seems a little insane.
It is so nice not having much access to the media.

Well, I've been wondering where you are and now we know. Happy knitting!

And what's wrong with debating sock yarn and sock patterns ... just from the sheer volume of books published in the last couple of years there is obviously an infinite number of possibilities!
Don't ya just love knitting!
Blessings and enjoy the Ravelry time ..

I don't know. I'd say making me laugh out loud with that reference to the shoe-ducking incident is very much of value.

I don't watch much TV at all. However if even I am sick of seeing the footage of Obama killing a fly (big hairy deal!) way over here. then I can imagine it's so much worse in the US!

I haven't seen that news item. Mind you, the journalists here worship Obama so deeply, they would not say a word against him.
I wish I could unbalance my mind a little with sock patterns. I would knit up a storm. But alas it is not a talent I have. So I get vicarious pleasure out of watching you do it instead! So by all means, ravel away.

Are you kidding me that the fly is news in Australia? I don't know what to say to that.

I'm gone too, only you'll find me buried under paperwork and hosting guests for the next two weeks. I miss creativity.
I hadn't heard about the fly. Crazy!

I've been on Ravelry about a week and I'm both overwhelmed and obsessed. I saw this totally cute baby sweater in a knit shop the other day and the owner told me that it was the February sweater by Elizabeth Zimmerman. She told me that I should be able to find the pattern on Ravelry or Zimmerman's book, The Knitter's Almanac which I promptly checked out of the library. It turns out that I'm so not ready to follow one of EZ's patterns. I found many examples of the sweater on Ravelry. Until I can find the pattern written for those who are afraid to "wing it", I'm making a hat from Charmed Knits!

The BBC covered the fly death in its top news stories...more confirmation of O's sainthood here in the UK.
Contemplating sock yarn and patterns would be worth it if you think you might end up with socks that don't slide down your foot or require a special shoe purchase. Otherwise, I think you might have crossed over.

I guess I should have kept reading, lol. Ravelry is a dear dear friend to any stitcher!
