Wednesday.

Interesting article here. I spent so much time studying this in college and beyond. I may have to revisit a few favorite text books tonight. It's such a fascinating and tragic story.

I'm not whining, I promise I'm not, but by way of explanation (as I feel particularly boring lately) my mouth still hurts and it's zapping my energy and spark. I saw the dentist yesterday and he can do nothing to speed my recovery. I am feeling awfully sad for those people who are in constant, nagging pain from any number of conditions. My pain is harmless and will pass soon enough.

We are wrapping up our lessons for the year. I'm planning a rather artsy summer term. The museum has bios of all the artists featured in the summer exhibit on the website. There is an outdoor concert series that we hope to attend. We've started a poetry journal where Lucy is to copy her favorite poems in her very best handwriting. This will be such a treasure when she is older. And if I can convince myself to place that Amazon order, we'll be working on botanical illustrations. We finished up The Sorcerer's Stone. I had my reservations about reading this to Lucy, but she had seen the movie years ago. It also provided so many Greek myth tie-ins that it made for a great unit study of sorts. I'm pre-reading Prince Caspian right now, in hopes of reading it in time for the movie release. The movie looks a bit romantic in parts - we'll see. My husband has promised to take over science for the summer. Our summer camping trip provides an ideal opportunity for star gazing. It would be nice to know what I'll looking at (a lollipop, perhaps? :))

Hope all is well with my internet friends - Happy Wednesday.

Whew, that was a hard article to read. I already knew the news but it hadnt been confirmed. I was absolutely obsessed with the last Romanovs as a teenager and into my twenties. I thought I was unusual in this, but it seems there are many, many people with the same interest. If you look up the Alexander Palace Time Machine http://www.alexanderpalace.org/palace/
they also have a forum.

Such a tragic story indeed. I dont know why I was so attracted to it except I was introduced to it via the Robert Massie biography and that was such a great book.

I'm over my obsession now, but its still sad to think of their deaths.

I'm sorry to read that you are not feeling much better. It will indeed pass, but in the meanwhile I hope you find comfort in some way.

I find it fascinating as well. I never studied it in depth, but would love to. Any book suggestions?

I'm glad to hear you saw your dentist-I was afraid you might have an infection. I know how rough it is when you aren't feeling well. I'm enjoying the Well-Trained Mind, though I must admit I have to fight to stay awake. It's just such dry reading-full of great ideas and info, just not super exciting!

And yes, I caught that lollipop reference!

I bought the most wonderful books on astronomy recently when I went on a 2 week sailing trip on my friend's yacht. You can read about our travels at their blog, http://svthyme.blogspot.com/
Of course, the books we bought would be no good to you because the were focussed on the southern hemisphere. But if you ever want to see the most amazing stars, go out to sea 20 miles and check out the sky! Fantastic and breathtaking. Combine it with a new experience (sailing) and you have one top holiday.
