Yay! Snow! Ice! Maybe these aren't cause for a celebration where you live, but here in the south where I had the air conditioning running yesterday, this makes everyone positively giddy. The news stations cancel all regular programming to cover the 1/2 inch blizzard (overreact much?), schools close, and everyone is in a good mood.
First: Trip to Super Target because we may be STRANDED until late Saturday afternoon. :) We need bottled water, chili ingredients, and clementines.
Second: Lucy and I begin to roll out our gingerbread dough. I made two batches of this recipe a couple of days ago and it is chilled and ready to roll. It is nice doing the log cabin together because it is really easy for a child to roll logs and I don't get all psycho Martha Stewart on her, "Here, just let ME do it!!" Because that kind of sucks the fun out of mother/daughter time. Not that that has ever happened here before. Really, we do fairly well. I think the key to me staying in a good mood is to take the whole process very slowly - it takes us well over a week.
Third: Yell at my daughter running barefoot through the snow in the backyard to put some shoes on (we finally settled on flip flops - she was only out for a minute or two). She was so happy!
Lastly: Little House on the Prairie under blankets.
What a nice day.
It's still in the 20s so we won't be getting out today, but I'm happy to say that Dawn has her Late Autumn Field Day up this morning. There are so many wonderful posts up! I think I'll sit Lucy beside me this morning and make this our science lesson for today. Thanks Dawn!
